My name is Mike and I live in Denver, Colorado in the Capitol Hill neighborhood.

I work for an Internet Service Provider and have provided free hosting to various causes I support in the past. I'm not sure that is something I can still do very readily (or at least, not for a very long term as I may be transitioning out of this job later in the year), but I am happy to provide general computer and networking help. I have a lot of other skills to provide so check out my profile. I really LOVE the idea that I can be a fool. I never knew that was a skill! I am in fact a fool.

I'm also signed up in the Couch Surfing community. I'm exploring a variety of interrelated ideas. I practice Radical Honesty. It is part of what pulls me to this place.

The idea of freeconomy really interests me. I'm opposed to capitalism as it is practiced in the U.S. and most places today. However, I'm not interested in actively opposing that system as much as creating a new one (and I'm struggling here to avoid the word paradigm).

Thanks for the welcome and links - I'll take a look at them and am definitely interested in the book. To answer your question, the search says:

There are 22 freeconomists within your 25 mile radius

So, I barely hold a candle to your 162. My culture is pretty heavily invested in its beliefs that greed is good and we're likely a few steps behind in many ways. I imagine that will keep it interesting for me.

I normally only look for people in a 10 mile radius because I don't own a car. I do participate in a car-sharing service (for money) and plan to get signed up onto our city's new bike-sharing service (also for money). I could live without either, but see these as good stepping stones to a gift economy as they are a kind of community sharing that is quite outside our private ownership models.

It turns out that I work across the street from the Federal Reserve, and also very close to the U.S. Mint. I hope to take a tour of the latter sometime next month. My intention is a sort of "bearing witness" of the place that illusions are made. My secondary intention is to imagine if it will make a good museum in a future gift economy world.

I realized last night some more things I can share on my profile..... ttfn!

Hehehe, define "cool".

If you send me the basic text I can create a page or two for you and find a picture to put with it. My actual graphic design skills are near zero.
